Happy #GivingTuesday! ??

November 28, 2017

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and have filled both your heart and your stomach by now. It’s the time of year where giving selflessly is socially acceptable, so if you haven’t spent your entire 401K on Amazon Prime deals, we need you! (or if you have, that’s fine too – you do you, boo-boo!).

As you may know, today is #GivingTuesday, and we hope you have a little extra to help us as we continue to develop theatre that gives voice to the issues and communities that need it. We would be grateful for any gifts you could share with us this holiday season.

We know you won’t forget about us, and we could never forget about you! In the next few weeks, we’re going to have all sorts of exciting announcements for you, because we are starting 2018 out with a bang! So stay tuned and thank you so much for your support of Squeaky Bicycle Productions!

Our Board of Directors

She has also worked at Yeshiva University in New York, where she was Senior Director of Research and Data Management and spent seven years at Harvard University, working at the University’s Office of Alumni Affairs and Development and Harvard Medical School. She began her career in prospect development at Brandeis University and also worked at Brown University. Anne has a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.L.S. from Indiana University. She previously served on the boards of NEDRA and APRA GNY.David Chesnick – Member, Board of Directors: David is the Senior Director of Supply and Risk Mitigation at RRH Energy Services LLC. A data-driven analytics manager, he is passionate about optimization and visual analytics. He serves as the Senior Director of Supply and Risk Mitigation at RRH Energy Services LLC. David received his bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University where he majored in marketing, as well as an MBA from Lehigh with a focus in project management.  He’s also an avid theatergoer and took acting classes in high school and college, but knows his limitations.

Heather Poli – Member, Board of Directors: As a brand strategy consultant, Heather helps clients hunt down consumer insights and transform them into powerful brand, business and communication strategies.  Working with a wide range of clients, from global powerhouses to budding startups, Heather has traveled the globe investigating fleeting trends and timeless motivations.
Over the years, Heather has held positions with Egg Strategy and Hall & Partners consultancies, and advertising agencies Saatchi & Saatchi and McClain Finlon, as well as spending years embracing the freelance economy as an independent consultant.
When not at work, you’ll find Heather indulging in her love of art and design, food, and global travel—ideally all at once.   Jon Stranske – Member, Board of Directors: Jon has held roles in strategy, finance and leadership at media companies including NBC and Univision Communications.  He currently is a Project Leader in the Office of the CEO of Univision where his team is responsible for corporate strategy and business development functions.  Previously Jon led financial valuations for major media rights and investments at both Univision and NBC.  He holds an MBA with specialization in strategy and finance from NYU’s Stern School of business.
When he is not at work you’ll find Jon adventuring to find interesting food anywhere in NYC or scheming about the next far-flung travel destination on his list.
Robert Waxlax – Chair, Board of Directors: Robert is a Business Development Associate at Connecticut-based Louis Dreyfus Company, which means that he spends way too much time working on spreadsheets and sitting/standing in Metro-North trains. Robert’s primary goal is to help Squeaky Bicycle Productions grow its financial resources so that Kathryn and Brandi can spend more of their time producing great theatre. Robert has a BS in Economics from the University of Florida and an MBA from the University of Miami. In his spare time, he dabbles in photography and composting; he does both poorly

We’re so grateful to welcome all of you to the Squeaky Bike team!

Happy Birthday Squeaky Bike! ???

July 17, 2017

Did you know that Squeaky Bicycle just celebrated a birthday? Yesterday, we turned 7 years old! This amazing feat was possible only because of you and your constant love and support. As we all know, growing older means (unfortunately) growing up. While we haven’t turned in our childhood bicycles, we do need to upgrade our tassels a bit – and we need you to make that possible!
As part of our birthday celebration, we recently launched our New Wheels fundraising campaign. We are trying to meet our goal of $700 in 7 days in order to keep bringing you new, brilliant work by amazingly talented artists. This flash fundraiser ends tomorrow, so we encourage you to visit here to give whatever you can! Help us reach our awkward tween years. All proceeds go to support our upcoming 2017-2018 season of wonderfully entertaining productions!

Help SBP drive into our 2017-2018 season with some New Wheels!

July 12, 2017

Have you heard the news? Squeaky Bicycle is turning seven years old! On July 16th, we are celebrating seven wonderful years of new ideas, experiences, and memories. Like most seven-year-olds, we want big things for our celebration—and we need your help to make that happen! Instead of inflating bouncy houses and hiring clowns (are clowns even popular anymore? It’s been a while…), we need you to help us with our super fast, super fun, super exciting birthday fundraising extravaganza! We are dusting off our streamers to unveil…(drumroll please)…the New Wheels campaign!

The New Wheels campaign is our one-week micro-fundraiser where we aim to meet (and hopefully exceed) our goal of raising $700. It’s a quick flash fundraiser—just a little jolt to get our 2017-2018 season going. All proceeds would go to support the upcoming season so we can continue bringing you unique productions well into our angsty teen years. Contributions of any size would be welcomed like a fresh slice of birthday cake!

Eternal glory is at stake (also a bar tab)

May 9, 2017

In just one week, you will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness history being made on the stage. The Velodrome Company’s “All Guts and Some Glory” is a unique scene competition where five local playwrights will gather in one place to compete for eternal glory (and a bar tab). This pay-what-you-will event is happening Monday, May 15th at 7pm at the Theater for the New City. Not only do we want you to witness this event, we NEED you to be the judge! The power to choose is in your hands. This event is one you simply can’t miss!

GET TICKETS

To further entice you, we would like to introduce you to your playwrights and their short plays.

First, back from his ever popular recent production of Dead Man’s Dinner, W.M. Akers will bring us Christmas in a Volcano. This unique play takes place in the heart of a dormant volcano, where a mad mechanic threatens to destroy a town in order to make a friend.

Second, we have returning playwright Emily Daly. Daly’s play, Spectacular, will explore what happens when the world’s First Lady Cannonballer goes rogue. Daly is ready for the competition with this explosive short play!

Third, we have Robert Zander Norman‘s Die in the Blast. This short play is about an apocalypse-loving young man who’s making some big decisions. Norman is also a returning playwright and, this time, he’s returning to win it all.

Fourth, we have Jeff Johnson in his Velodrome playwriting debut! Johnson will present his play, In the Red, which explores what pushing the limits can mean. Colin owes a lot of money, and he goes way out of his comfort zone. Try not to judge him too harshly, as he does what he must to escape literal and figurative debt.

Last, but not least, we have William Kozy‘s Riddle Me This. This is also Kozy’s Velodrome playwriting debut and he’s hoping to take home the gold (and the bar tab). His play centers around a young, loving couple touring Scotland, and the hilarity that ensues when they come upon an old, bridge-living troll.

Keep an eye on our Instagram Story (@SqueakyBicycle) and our Snapchat (@SqueakyBicycles) to see what the amazing people working on this show go through during rehearsal. Reserve your ticket here today to ensure you don’t miss out on this sure-to-be-amazing show!

Get in the Ring with ALL GUTS AND SOME GLORY

April 25, 2017

In just under three weeks, you will have the opportunity to witness a competition like no other: The Velodrome Company’s “All Guts and Some Glory”! Presented at Theater for the New City, this pay-what-you-will event will be one to remember. On Monday, May 15th at 7pm, five playwrights from around the greater New York City area will gather together to compete for glory (and a respectable bar tab). They will be presenting original scenes to be judged by…

[drumroll please]

…YOU! You have the power to make or break these playwrights (or to just make them drunk). Either way, this night is sure to bring some fun surprises. We gave the playwrights full reign, and they gave us a whole lot of fun!

Without further ado, we introduce your competitors!

In one corner, we have one of our resident playwrights, W.M. Akers! Akers is a top competitor, coming off of the recent production of his play, Dead Man’s Dinner, a clear audience favorite.
Will he be able to serve up some delicious dialogue to win over the crowd again this time?

In the other corner, we have returning playwrights Emily Daly and Robert Zander Norman! Both playwrights were featured in the Velodrome kickoff event, “The Unconventional Convention,” in the fall of 2016.
Will either playwright have what it takes to leave the crowd wanting more?

And in yet another corner, we have returning favorites Jeff Johnson and William Kozy! Both Squeaky Bike favorites as actors, this will be their playwriting debut with us!
Will either one be able to withstand the competition in their new role, and finish victorious?

There’s only one way to find out the answers to all of these questions. Stay tuned for info on how to reserve your seat for a night that can’t be missed!

Keep Us Weird and Wonderful

April 14, 2017

“Like I’d trust you to cook my brains, you’d only burn them!”
Jackie Gallagher in Dead Man’s Dinner

In just three weeks and 13 performances, Dead Man’s Dinner made a huge impression. Now that you’ve warmed up and gotten some (ethically acceptable) meals in you, we wanted to reach out to thank you for joining us on this weird and wonderful journey. We loved every moment of producing this daring play, and we’re grateful so many of you were there to share in it.

There’s just one more kind of success we’re hoping to achieve, and to do so we need your help! As a young theatre company, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to raise the funds necessary to produce delicious work, full of “wit and humor, beautifully delivered,” like Dead Man’s Dinner.

With only 6 days left in our Fundraising Campaign, we’re counting on you to help us reach our goal!
Click the link below to make a tax-deductible donation.

Every dollar makes a difference! If you weren’t able to make it to the show, you might consider donating the cost of a ticket: $18. If you’re feeling really bold, you could consider adding the cost of the dinner or drinks you might have had afterward, and round it up to $50! And of course, if you’re feeling a little hungry, you could make a gift of $200 and get a very secret recipe that will give you some insider info about how we created one of the yummier parts of the show.

We are forever grateful for your help and can’t wait to entertain you in the years to come.
